Hands-on Learning with Radiology Professionals
On October 31, 22 students from AIMS Education’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program took a filed trip to Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center. The visit was led by Outpatient Radiology Supervisor Patrique Larco Brown, EdD, MPH, RDMS, RVT, and coordinated by AIMS Clinical Coordinator Ginelle Gutierrez.
Students began their tour in the main hospital’s Radiology Department, where they stepped inside active CT, X-ray, DEXA, and MRI exam rooms. They had the opportunity to meet technologists across multiple imaging specialties and gain firsthand insight into their daily workflows, patient interactions, and professional pathways.

One of the highlights of the tour was a look inside the MRI suite, where students were introduced to the facility’s newest technology, the Exablate Neuro system, an innovative platform that uses MRI guided focused ultrasound to treat neurological conditions.
During the second half of the field trip, the group visited the Outpatient Radiology Department. There, students continued meeting technologists, discussing career opportunities, and asking thoughtful questions about the profession, from how long the techs have been in the field to the steps they took to enter radiology. Students were especially interested in learning about techniques to prevent workplace injury and promote long-term career longevity.

AIMS Education extends its sincere appreciation to Patrique and the entire radiology team at Jersey Shore University Medical Center for their hospitality, mentorship, and continued support of our students. Experiences like this inspire future healthcare professionals and reinforce the values of patient care, teamwork, and lifelong learning.
“We truly appreciate the time the staff take from their busy day to share their insight and passion,” said Gutierrez. “These field trips mean so much to our students, and we look forward to continuing them in the future.”
