Technical Standards
The prospective anesthesia technology student must possess sufficient strength, motor coordination, and manual dexterity to:
- Prepare equipment in the operating room.
- Maintain equipment and troubleshoot as necessary.
- Test and maintain equipment prior to surgery.
- Manage operating room supply inventory.
- Prepare anesthesia drugs under the direction of the anesthesiologist.
- Connect and operate equipment that monitors patient vital signs during surgery.
- Assist with IVs and airway devices.
- Help transfer patients to post-op care rooms.
Health Standards
The prospective anesthesia technology student must:
- Demonstrate proper depth perception and color vision.
- Have appropriate upper strength, mobility, and be able to bend and twist their body.
- Be able to walk, stand, and move around the facility.
- Possess fine motor control, including proper hand/eye coordination.
- Maintain personal hygiene consistent with close personal contact associated with patient care.
The prospective anesthesia technology student must be able to consistently demonstrate emotional, mental, and physical health to:
- Work in a high-stress environment and handle life-or-death situations.
- Maintain composure while managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Carry out all assigned duties.
Communication Standards
The prospective anesthesia technology student must be able to consistently demonstrate effective communication skills to:
- Speak and communicate with clarity.
- Interpret instructions furnished in oral or written form.
- Comprehend simple and complex instructions related to the use and maintenance of equipment, safety rules, and procedures.
Environmental Factors
The prospective anesthesia technology student may be exposed to:
- Dust, fumes, smoke, gases, odors, mists, or other irritating particles.
- Radiation or electrical energy.
