  • Perform essential physical tasks required in nuclear medicine training (e.g., positioning patients, using imaging equipment controls, and handling routine lab/clinical tasks).
  • Maintain physical endurance and work safely for the scheduled duration of labs/clinical rotations.
  • Safely perform tasks requiring hand-eye coordination and fine motor control (e.g., equipment operation, labeling, preparation tasks consistent with training).
  • Move safely through clinical environments (including walking, standing, and transferring patients as required by training policies and under supervision).

The prospective Nuclear Medicine Technology student must:

  • Use judgment, prioritize tasks, and perform multiple steps of procedures safely and accurately.
  • Follow protocols and apply safety principles during procedures, including radiation safety and infection control requirements.
  • Recognize limits and seek assistance appropriately when unsure or when safety concerns arise.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, dependability, and appropriate conduct in clinical and classroom environments.
  • Adhere to attendance, punctuality, and academic/clinical performance requirements.
  • Comply with HIPAA/privacy and institutional policies for patient information and documentation.

Radiation Safety & Compliance

The prospective Nuclear Medicine Technology student must be able to consistently:

  • Follow radiation safety procedures required for clinical practice (e.g., time/distance/shielding, ALARA principles, keeping exposure controlled).
  • Use radiation monitoring devices and follow required processes for dosimetry and exposure reporting as instructed.
  • Comply with all policies regarding contamination control, waste disposal, and emergency response related to radiation incidents.

Infection Control & Biohazard Safety

The prospective Nuclear Medicine Technology student must be able to consistently:

  • Follow infection-control practices (e.g., hand hygiene, PPE use, safe handling of specimens/materials as assigned and trained).
  • Comply with established safety procedures to reduce risk of exposure to blood/body fluids and other hazards.
