On July 9, 2025, representatives from NJ Sharing Network, New Jersey’s federally designated nonprofit organ procurement organization, visited the AIMS Education campus to meet with students in the Surgical Technology and Sterile Processing Technician programs. The session provided students with an overview of the organization’s mission and services, as well as potential career opportunities related to their fields of study.

About NJ Sharing Network

Established in 1987, NJ Sharing Network (NJSN) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that manages the recovery and placement of donated organs and tissue for transplantation in New Jersey. The organization also provides ongoing support to donor families.

NJSN operates a fully accredited Transplant Laboratory, which conducts histocompatibility testing for organ donors and recipients and participates in research related to transplantation. The laboratory plays a key role in donor-recipient matching and in evaluating transplant patients before and after surgery.

Campus Visit

The visiting team included Tatiana Martinez from the clinical staff and Lance Thomas from talent acquisition. They spoke with students about:

  • Current and upcoming job opportunities within NJ Sharing Network that align with surgical technology and sterile processing training.
  • Responsibilities and schedules for various positions.
  • How NJSN staff provide support to families involved in organ and tissue donation.

In addition to the presentation, the representatives toured the AIMS Education operating room and sterile processing lab.

Student Engagement

Students had the chance to ask questions and learn about career paths they may not have previously considered. The visit was informative and highlighted ways in which surgical technology and sterile processing skills can be applied outside of traditional hospital settings.

AIMS Education plans to invite NJ Sharing Network back for future sessions so that upcoming classes can also benefit from these discussions.
