Graduate Spotlight

Stephanie Conklin

Stephanie Conklin is a recent graduate of the Neurodiagnostic Technologist (NDT) program at AIMS. Like many of our previous graduates, Stephanie is a prime example that it is never too late to find the right career. After managing the South Amboy Arena, a RollerMagic Roller Rink, for 14 years, Stephanie decided it was time for a career change. Her decision eventually brought her to AIMS.

A native of New Jersey and mother of two children, Stephanie has always been an active person. For a number of years she competed in freestyle roller skating competitions for the All-American RollerMagic Team. Now she continues to skate with her son and daughter, who also compete with the same RollerMagic Team.

Stephanie’s interest in healthcare is both personal and professional. She has always had a desire to help and care for people in need. Her experience on the South Amboy First Aid and Rescue Squad is a testament to that. She has also been forced to deal with her own medical issues; she has epilepsy.

Her experience as a patient has strengthened her passion for helping people going through similar experiences. That is one of the primary reasons she wanted to become an EEG Tech. She understands the fears and concerns of patients who are subjected to multiple EEGS, as well as other neurodiagnostic procedures.

Finding the right balance between family, school, and work was the biggest challenge Stephanie faced. While she was attending AIMS, she made sure her family remained a priority. At the same time, she continued to fulfill her responsibilities as manager of the South Amboy Arena. The understanding and support she received from her family played a major role in her success.

"I personally learned that anything is possible when you put your mind to it and dedicate yourself to that goal."

The NDT program was challenging, but with the help of her instructors she persevered. After completing her classroom education, Stephanie was able to do her clinical internship at two major teaching hospitals – East Orange General Hospital in East Orange, NJ, and Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, NJ. She found the medical professionals at both facilities to be understanding, patient, and incredibly helpful. And despite some early nerves, she excelled throughout her internship.

“My internship time was critical to my education.”

Shortly after graduating from the NDT program at AIMS, Stephanie was offered a position with Meridian Health as an EEG Tech. She works primarily at Riverview Medical Center but also goes to other Meridian Health facilities when needed. She continues to work hard and expand her knowledge every day, and she looks forward to gaining more experience in the END field.
