The healthcare field has always been Sadia Choudry’s passion. Before moving to the United States, she was a practicing physician in Pakistan. She worked primarily in a teaching hospital where she worked with patients in the Emergency Department as well as the hospital’s outdoor clinics. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Sadia often provided healthcare education to the general public through classes and lectures.
Despite the challenging nature of working with sick patients, Sadia has always found the experience rewarding. Therefore, upon immigrating to the United States, she quickly began searching for career options within the healthcare field.
While practicing medicine in Pakistan she found the diagnostic process of healthcare fascinating. She found it similar to the process of putting the pieces of a puzzle together. This led her to choose Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) as her future career.
Sadia first discovered AIMS when she was searching for accredited ultrasound programs on the CAAHEP website. After visiting a number of schools, she made the decision to enroll at AIMS. She liked the overall atmosphere of the school so much that she decided to move from New York to New Jersey to attend school.
Sadia found the instructors to be both knowledgeable and approachable. She appreciated the balance between practical training and theory that they offered. She also found the clinical internship experience extremely beneficial.
"The experience was great and helped me prepare for my future career."
For the internship portion of her program, Sadia was placed at St. Michaels Medical Center in Newark and Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy. Due to the size of both facilities, she was able to work with a wide variety of patients and learn quite a bit. She learned a lot from the technicians regarding medical ethics, diseases, diagnostic procedures, and PACS. And she gained hands-on experience in several ultrasound specialties.
Upon graduation, Sadia was hired as an ultrasound technologist at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, New York. She enjoys having the opportunity to diagnose diseases as well as care for and work closely with patients. Long-term she hopes to be involved in healthcare research and education.
